Marina (マリナ) is a supporting character who first appeared in 7th Dragon 2020-II, an artificial Lucier known as the Anti-Dragon Weapon.

Appearance[]

Marina has pink hair and green eyes. She also possesses the cat-like ears common among female Luciers.

She did not have any clothes upon first awakening from the capsule and had to make do with a brown material that had the Murakumo logo on it (presumably taken from the vehicle that facilitated her transfer), using it as a makeshift cloak.

After being rescued, Marina was given a blue-green blouse adorned with ribbons and black leggings with a red lace trim.

Personality & Character[]

Having only recently been born, Marina's behavior is no different from that of a child. However, she is well aware of her role in the dragon war and is determined to see it through no matter what.

After a little girl offered her a Choco-bar (in lieu of cat food which she obviously cannot eat), it has since become her favorite snack.

Skills & Abilities[]

Marina has the alchemic know-how and capability to synthesize the mythical Orihalcon metal alloy, which serves as the base material for a sword weapon that kills any dragon in existence. This ability can also be used to alter the molecular structure of other kinds of solid matter as evidenced when she easily broke free from her restraints, which her captors described as "melted into something like honey".

Since she handles materials deadly to dragons, her powers can also put them in a state of suspended animation, which was shown when she rendered Trinitro harmless after the self-destruction countdown was enacted. This cannot be used on active dragons since it requires her to fully focus for a certain period of time.

History[]

A long time ago, a True Dragon drove the ancient inhabitants of Atlantis known as Luciers into extinction. Marina was an artificial Lucier created by Emel using the genetic code recovered from them. Her existence was kept under wraps, known only as a "Dragon-Killing Weapon". However, Unit 13 and SECT 11's heated race to secure her led to her true identity being revealed. Though seemingly innocent and detached from the world around her, she also has an earnest and determined spirit. During the final battle in 2021, she was successfully able to forge the Dragon Slaying Sword and passed it on to Unit 13. Incidentally, Choco-bars are her favorite food.
Character Description, 7th Dragon 2020 & 2020-II Visual Collection.

Marina was among the many artificial Luciers created by Emel via the S-Class designer baby equipment similar to the ones used by the late Natsume Hikasa.

Out of all the Lucier specimens, she was observed as the only one with the potential to fully accept the ATL Code, an algorithm that encapsulates the ancient alchemic knowledge and powers originally possessed by the queen of Atlantis. This was in preparation for the advent of another True Dragon.

Intermission[]

She was later sent to the Diet Building inside a stasis capsule from a separate Murakumo facility in Mt. Fuji. However, the signal of the transport convoy was lost. The capsule was traced to an underground tunnel in Hachiouji and Unit 13 was mobilized to retrieve it. SECT 11 also obtained data about an "Anti-Dragon Weapon" and planned to steal it as per U.S. President David Griffith's orders. The capsule was found, but it was already empty. Marina had awakened and was wandering about in search of Emel long before the two groups arrived.

Chapter 2[]

The signal of the Anti-Dragon Weapon was later traced to Shibuya, but a sudden burst of acid rainfall caused by the Emperor Dragon Oceanus would interrupt the investigation and retrieval mission. Marina presumably sought shelter somewhere in the area until Oceanus was defeated by Unit 13.

Chapter 3[]

Unit 13 later found Marina in Shibuya. As she did not know that the group was connected to Emel, Marina continuously fled from them, thinking that they were "bad people". Unit 13 had to give up the chase for the time being since Formalhout's influence revived the Emperor Dragon Sleepy Hollow, threatening to throw the area into chaos once more.

Marina was eventually cornered by SECT 11 operatives in Capital Expressway Line 11 where her identity as a Lucier was also revealed. She was then taken to their base and scheduled to go with SECT 11 to the U.S and transferred to a laboratory for analysis.

Chapter 4[]

En route to the rendezvous point, Marina uses her powers to destroy her restraints and escapes to the Kokubunji Scorching Factory with SECT 11 leader Shouji and his sister Izumi in hot pursuit. Unit 13 also arrived to rescue her but were slowed down by the mechanical dragons under the command of the revived Emperor Dragon Trinitro, as well as a couple of SECT 11 platoons standing guard within the facility. Unit 13 and the SECT 11 commanders decide on a temporary truce, since Marina unwittingly wandered into Trinitro's lair and was in grave danger. Shouji and Izumi positioned themselves to protect Marina while the trio battles the Emperor Dragon. Trinitro escaped into a diamond-shaped monolith upon defeat and threatened to blow up the factory like before, but Marina rendered the Emperor Dragon into a state of permanent sleep, stopping the countdown in the process.

Shouji challenges Unit 13 to a duel with the victor earning the right to decide Marina's fate, and Unit 13 easily prevailed. The President was upset with this development and ordered the other SECT 11 operatives to take Marina back by force. Tired of their dishonorable sabotage missions, they "accidentally" broke their communicator terminals, indirectly disobeying their commander-in-chief. Marina was then safely taken back to the Diet, where Emel briefed her once more on the role she will play in the dragon war: Her alchemic knowledge was the key to creating the legendary "Dragon Slaying Sword" which is made from the mythical metal Orihalcon. Said metal is forged from three synthesized dragon hearts.

Following Formalhout's invasion of the Diet Building which drove everyone within underground due to the poisonous spores of the Black Dragonsbane, Marina worked with Kirino to create a stop-gap vaccine from the incomplete Orihalcon compound, and was administered to Unit 13 to aid them in liberating the upper levels of the structure.

Trivia[]

  • Since Marina and the other artificial Luciers were made with the same equipment that produced Miroku and Miina, the twins consider them to be "younger brothers and sisters".
