History[]

7th Dragon[]

Takehaya was a ancient hero that slayed many dragons but was later defeated. The Emperor dragons tried to integrate him and he ended up mutating into a hybrid between human and dragon. After he is defeated, he will give you the Dragon Chronicles book about powerful dragons and how to kill them.

7th Dragon 2020[]

The leader of SKY, a youth gang based in Shibuya. Was a victim of Natsume Hikasa's genetic manipulation experiments. He later formed his own community after escaping from Murakumo, but reluctantly returns after his group was saved by Unit 13. Despite his constitution being almost completely broken as an aftereffect of the experimentation he underwent, he later volunteered to become a human-dragon hybrid, intending to fulfill his beloved Aytel's wish to save the Earth. He later accomplished this with Unit 13's help.

In order to destroy the barrier that Mizuchi put up at the Tokyo Tower, Takehaya was subjected to the "Dragon Chronicle" process developed by Kirino, becoming the second human-dragon hybrid. Not only was he able to break the barrier, he was also instrumental in the defeat of the True Dragon Nyala in 2020, giving Unit 13 the opening needed to administer the final strike, and disappeared following the conclusion of that battle. He was taken away by Aytel in secret and isolated from civilization, resting in a spectral dimension to seal away his tremendous powers.

Takehaya appears as the leader of SKY. Along with Neko and Daigo, he was among a group of youths subjected to genetic manipulation experiments by Natsume Hikasa years ago but were able to escape with Ayafumi Kirino's help.

Though he actively opposes Murakumo, he takes exception to Unit 13 after Aytel shows interest in them, the latter strongly believing the group to be this world's Dragon Hunters. He has feelings for Aytel, but knowing fully well that the latter's focus lies solely in finding individuals who could rid the world of dragons, takes it upon himself to do what he can for her sake.

To this end, Takehaya challenges Unit 13 to a face-off at the Kokubunji Scorching Factory. Despite being able to defeat dragons in an instant, he acknowledges Unit 13 being more worthy than he could ever be when the group passes all his trials.

When Natsume Hikasa turns into Mizuchi and awakens the dragons slumbering in the deeper parts of Shibuya, many members of SKY fell victim to the toxic spores of the Emperor Dragon Sleepy Hollow, driving them into madness and making them turn against each other. Upon Sleepy Hollow's defeat, Unit 13 invites Takehaya and the surviving members of SKY to seek refuge and medical treatment in the Metropolitan Government Building, which the latter reluctantly accepts.

After recovering from his injuries, Takehaya reveals to Unit 13 that the Dragon Chronicle, first announced to them as weapon by Kirino, was actually a forbidden process of fusing dragon essences to humans. He also confesses that he has volunteered to be subject to it to fulfill his desire of playing the "hero" despite his body being almost totally broken.

During the Tokyo Tower Operation, he uses his newfound powers to destroy the barrier surrounding the said landmark. He later attacks the True Dragon Nyala at the peak even at the risk of his life, weakening it just enough for Unit 13 to finish it off.

His body was eventually recovered by Aytel and Emel. He later sends a message to Unit 13 to come see him at the Phantom Capital, wanting another chance to fight them and put his tired body to rest.

7th Dragon 2020-II[]

Though not appearing in the main story, Takehaya reprises his role as an extra boss in the Phantom Capital.

He was slain in the last battle with Unit 13 but later reincarnated against his will after Formalhout's invasion. Takehaya fears that if the dragon's influence completely consumes him, he would become the next threat to humanity.

With this, he asks Unit 13, as well as those who would come after them, to keep on slaying him as many times as necessary so that the world would remain safe.

Trivia[]

  • After the revelation that Eden is the future of Earth, it is confirmed that Takehaya in 7th Dragon is the same Takehaya from 2020 after transforming into his dragon hybrid form and being defeated by Unit 13 of Murakumo.
  • If Takehaya is defeated in 2020, a special end roll will play but will not prompt a clear save, forcing the game back to the title screen. In 2020-II, this was remedied and also grants the player a trophy key item, "Spear of Humanity's Warrior".
